A repaired relationship can contain caution without containing a wish to punish.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Repair does not mean returning to the state before the damage. Something can be genuinely mended and still carry a slower, more careful quality, where trust is extended in smaller amounts than it used to be. That carefulness is often mistaken for grudge-holding by the person who caused the harm, and read as failure by the person who was hurt. It is usually neither. It is a caution that has learned something and is not obliged to unlearn it on a schedule.

If you are the one being careful, you do not have to apologise for the pace. If you are the one being watched, let time do the arguing.
