The empty place at a familiar table can make seating feel like remembering.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Grief often arrives through logistics rather than through thinking. Nobody sits down intending to remember anything, and then the chairs have to be arranged and the absence becomes a practical question with no good answer. Ordinary arrangements hold the shape of whoever used to be in them, which is why small domestic moments can be heavier than the occasions everybody braced for.
Nothing here has to be decided quickly. Some families leave the place, some fill it, some move to a different room for a while, and all of those are reasonable. If it helps, say the name aloud rather than working around it in silence.
