Embarrassment has a long shelf life inside the person who felt it and a very short one in everyone else. The others were busy with their own evening, and the moment left them almost no trace. You kept it because it happened to you, from the inside, with the full sound and heat of it. What you are carrying is not the event, it is a private recording nobody else owns.

When one of these surfaces, note how long ago it was and whether anyone has mentioned it since. That is not a cure, but it can loosen the grip enough to let the rest of the day continue.
