The shortest route can pass through none of the things that made the journey worthwhile.

Efficiency only protects what you thought to measure. Choose a route by time alone and you will lose the detour, the conversation on the way, the shop you always pass, none of which ever appeared in the calculation. Nothing goes wrong exactly; the trip simply arrives emptier than it used to. That loss is easy to miss because it never shows up as a cost.
Look at one thing you have recently made faster and ask what quietly left with the extra minutes. A commute, a meal, a phone call kept short. If something worth keeping went, put a version of it back deliberately, even once this week.
What did you cut from your routine that you actually enjoyed?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
