A drawing begins choosing what to leave out before it becomes recognizable.

Recognition depends on subtraction. Long before a drawing looks like anything, the hand has already decided which of the thousand available details will never appear, and it is those absences that let the eye find the subject. A picture that included everything would be unreadable. The same is true of any description, any explanation, any account of a day.
When you are trying to make something clear, work on what to remove rather than what to add. Ask which details are doing real work and which are only present because they were true. Cutting the second kind usually does more for understanding than further explanation.
