A saved ticket can hold the anticipation as well as the trip.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
The ticket you kept is not only evidence that you went somewhere. It was in a drawer for weeks beforehand, being looked at, and the looking was its own pleasure: the counting down, the planning, the thing to hold on to during an ordinary Tuesday. Part of what you saved is that waiting. People often underestimate how much of an experience happened before it started.
Give the anticipation more room than it usually gets. Book something far enough ahead that there is a stretch of looking forward, and let yourself enjoy that part deliberately. And when a trip is over, keep the small paper thing, since it holds both halves.
Which trip did you enjoy most before it even began?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
