The object behind glass once belonged to someone’s unremarkable afternoon.

Everything in a case was once just a thing somebody used without thinking. A bowl, a comb, a coin: none of them were significant at the time, and the person handling them had no idea they were making history out of a Tuesday. Importance is assigned much later, by people who were not there.

This works forward as well as back. The parts of your life that will seem remarkable later are almost certainly the ones you are not noticing now. That is not a reason to document everything, only to look a bit more closely at an ordinary week while you are inside it.
