A shared path works through attention that no painted line can fully supply.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Markings can divide a space, and they cannot make people look at each other. A painted line tells you where you are entitled to be, which is useful right up until someone needs to step outside their lane. What keeps it working is that most people glance up, adjust, leave room. Rules describe the arrangement; attention performs it.

Wherever you use a shared space this week, do a little more than your allocation requires. Look up, catch an eye, move over before you have to. And when someone strays into your part of it, remember that being in the right and being useful are not always the same move.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where do you rely on rules instead of watching the people around you?
