Money spent privately can serve a real need without producing an impressive explanation.

Not every expense has a story worth telling. Some money goes on making a week survivable: the taxi because you were exhausted, the repair nobody sees, the help that prevented an argument. Because these leave nothing to show, they can feel indefensible next to purchases that photograph well. Usefulness and explicability are different qualities, and only one of them appears in conversation.

Look at a recent spend that felt slightly shameful and ask what it actually bought. If the answer is rest, safety or a repaired relationship, that was the point. You do not owe anybody an account of it.
