An opinion becomes less generous when it ignores the cost of acting on it.

RESILIENCE
Advice offered without weighing what it would cost is a statement of your own values rather than help with somebody’s situation. Leave the job, move house, cut them off, complain to the manager: each is cheap to say and expensive to do, and the expense lands entirely on the other person. Certainty comes easily from a position carrying none of the consequences. Generous opinions include the price.
Before offering a strong view, name aloud what it would ask of them. Ask what they would have to give up to follow it. If you would not pay that yourself, say it more gently.
Whose advice ignored what following it would actually cost you?
