A tree can be ordinary to a passerby and a landmark to a child.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
The value of a place is set by how much of your life happened near it. An adult walking past sees a tree; a child who waited under it, climbed it, and measured the way home by it holds something much larger. Neither of them is wrong, and only one would be consulted before it came down. Significance is not visible from outside the person carrying it.
When something familiar is being changed or cleared, ask who has been living beside it; if a child tells you a plain object matters, treat it as accurate information rather than sentiment.
Which ordinary place was enormous to you as a child?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
