The lining makes its contribution against the skin rather than in the photograph.

Comfort gets delivered in one place and credit is given in another. A lining does nothing for how a coat looks and everything for how the day inside it goes, which makes its quality invisible to anyone judging from a distance. The same is true of much good work: it registers as ease rather than as achievement. Whoever assesses by appearance will keep undervaluing it.
When you judge something, ask what it is like to use rather than how it presents. If your own contribution is of this kind, say what it does, since nobody watching the outside will see it for you.
What good work of yours will never appear in any photograph?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
