The street where you grew up has continued having ordinary days without you.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

A childhood street exists in two states: the one you carry, fixed at whatever age you left, and the one that has been having Tuesdays ever since. New people moved in, a tree came down, the shop changed hands twice, and none of it was aimed at you or waiting for your return. Going back is disorienting mainly because you expected a place and found a present tense. Both versions are real; only one of them is still running.

If you visit somewhere from your past, go with curiosity about who lives there now. Letting the place be current is easier than defending the version you brought with you.
