A familiar habit can remain comforting after you stop believing the explanation behind it.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A practice can outlive the reason given for it. The thing your family did before a journey, the small ritual before a difficult day, the way you always set out the same objects: you may no longer believe any of it makes a difference, and it still steadies you. What is working is the repetition and the association, not the explanation. Keeping the habit without the belief is a coherent position rather than a contradiction.

If a ritual helps you, let it stay without requiring it to justify itself. And be careful about arguing anyone out of theirs, since the comfort is real even where the reasoning is not.
