The thing you dislike may be answering a need you do not have.

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Plenty of things that seem pointless are solutions to problems you have never had. The gadget, the rule, the format, the accommodation that looks excessive: each of them usually exists because somebody could not manage without it. Not needing something is a fact about your circumstances rather than a verdict on the thing. Dismissing it as silly quietly assumes that everyone’s requirements match your own.

When something strikes you as unnecessary, ask who it might be necessary for before you say so. The answer often turns out to be a group whose difficulty was invisible to you until you looked.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who is well served by the thing you keep dismissing?
