The place you miss may include a time no journey can bring back.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Homesickness often points at a map when it is really pointing at a year. The street may still be there, and the bakery, and the September light, but the people you were among have moved and so have you. Going back can be lovely and still leave the ache untouched, because the missing part was never geography.
If you can visit, let it be its own occasion rather than a repair. If you cannot, name what you actually miss: a person, an age, a version of your own days. Some of that can be rebuilt where you are, slowly and with different materials.
Would going back give you the time you actually miss?
