A person who cannot sit with themselves often accepts company they would otherwise reject.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Someone who cannot tolerate their own company is negotiating from a weak position with everyone. Almost any company beats the alternative, so the standards drop, and relationships get chosen for their ability to fill time rather than for what they actually are. The pattern is common and rarely named.
If you recognise this, the work is not to become more discerning by resolve. It is to make the alternative genuinely bearable, which happens through practice rather than insight. Spend regular time alone until it is ordinary, and you will find your standards rise on their own.
