Clothes are made twice, once for the rail and once for the day. A line that hangs beautifully in a shop can pinch when you raise your arms, sit down, carry a bag, or eat. Elegance that only works while standing still is not really finished, because the point of a garment is a person moving inside it. The same holds for anything designed to be admired before it is used.

Before buying, sit down in the thing, reach up, and walk a few steps. If it only looks right when you hold still, it will spend its life in the wardrobe.
