Being alone teaches you how much noise you were calling connection.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Constant contact can substitute for connection convincingly. Messages, feeds, background conversation, plans that fill the calendar: all of it produces the sensation of being among people without much of the substance. The absence of it is what makes the distinction obvious.

After some real quiet, notice which relationships you actually miss and which were mainly noise. Then put your effort toward the first group. Fewer, deeper contacts usually leave you less lonely than a large volume of light ones, though the volume is much easier to maintain.
