A comparison built from highlights makes ordinary effort look strangely inadequate.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
Comparison only works between things measured the same way. What reaches you from other people is edited: the finished piece, the good day, the photograph taken on the fourth attempt. What you have of your own is the unedited whole, tired hours and false starts included. Set side by side, ordinary competent effort looks like failure, which is a fault in the measurement rather than in the effort.
When the feeling arrives, ask what you are not being shown. Then look at your own work against what it was six months ago instead.
Whose highlights have you measured your ordinary days against?
