The person learning by watching needs the hidden choices made visible.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Watching only shows the visible half. An experienced person makes dozens of decisions that never surface as movements: what they rejected, what they checked, why they slowed down, which of two obvious options they did not take. A learner copying the actions ends up with the choreography and none of the judgement. What has to be handed over is the reasoning, and the expert has usually forgotten they are doing any.

If you are teaching somebody, narrate the choices rather than the steps. If you are learning, ask what they considered and discarded just before that moment.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which decisions do you make so automatically that watchers cannot see?
