The button pressed twice reveals a hope that effort can make waiting shorter.
STILLNESS
STILLNESS
Pressing again does nothing, and almost everybody does it. It comes from a deep expectation that effort and result are connected, which holds in most of life and fails completely in front of a lift or a crossing. What the second press really expresses is discomfort with having no part to play.
Notice where you are adding effort that cannot affect the outcome: refreshing a page, checking a decision that is not yours, rereading a message you have already sent. Naming those as waiting rather than doing frees up more energy than it sounds like it would.
Where does your impatience add effort without adding any speed?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
