The right words at the wrong moment can still become the wrong message.

Timing changes the message regardless of the words. An accurate criticism delivered when someone is already at their limit lands as cruelty; a fair point made in front of others becomes humiliation. The content stays the same and the message that arrives is different.

Before saying something true and difficult, check the conditions: are they able to hear this now, is this the right setting, are you saying it now because it is the right time or because you want relief. Waiting a day usually costs nothing and often decides whether the thing is received at all.
