A winter coat can carry the memory of who first made sure it fit.

Warmth is often somebody’s decision before it is a fabric. A coat that fits properly usually means a person took the trouble, checked the sleeves, spent money they may not have had spare, and thought about you on a cold morning that had not arrived yet. That care stays attached to the object long afterwards, which is why some old clothes are so hard to give away.
If the person who did that for you is still reachable, tell them you remember. If they are not, wearing the thing and thinking of them is its own kind of keeping.
Which garment still reminds you of the person who bought it?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
