The animal in the distance does not become approachable because the photograph would improve.

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

A wish for a better picture has no effect on what an animal can tolerate. The distance it keeps is the distance it needs, and closing it transfers the cost from your frame to its nest, its energy, its ability to feed before dark. Wanting something is not a reason for it to be available.

Take the distant photograph and let it be imperfect, or take no photograph and look properly instead. Carry binoculars rather than creeping forwards. The measure of a good encounter with a wild thing is that it did not have to move.
