The place you return to often becomes part of how you measure change.

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

A place you keep coming back to turns into an instrument. Because it stays roughly the same, everything different in the encounter has to be you: what you notice, who you are with, what you can afford, how the walk up the hill feels this time. That is why returning somewhere can be unexpectedly emotional even when nothing has happened there. You are reading your own changes off a fixed surface.

Keep one or two places in regular rotation, even if there is no obvious reason to go. They will tell you things about your own life that a calendar cannot.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Which place shows you most clearly how much you have changed?
