Your discipline should be stronger than your ability to rationalize.
RESILIENCE
RESILIENCE
You are very good at building a case. Given a few minutes and some discomfort, you can produce reasoning that would persuade a neutral observer, complete with evidence and reasonable priorities. That skill is not going away, which means discipline cannot be a matter of winning the argument each time. It has to be settled before the argument starts.
Make the decision once, in writing, when you are calm and nothing is at stake. Then treat the in-the-moment reasoning as commentary rather than a ruling. You will still hear the case; you just are not obliged to rule on it every day.
What reason do you give yourself most often for stopping early?
