A spare room can represent hospitality, postponed decisions, or both.
REFLECTION
REFLECTION
An unused room tends to fill with two different things at once. Some of it is generosity kept ready, a bed made up for whoever needs it. Some of it is everything you have not decided about, put behind a door where it can wait indefinitely. The same few square metres hold both, which is why the room resists a simple description.
Go and stand in whatever your version of that room is and sort what you see. Ask which things are waiting for a guest and which are waiting for a decision. Making one of those decisions this week gives the hospitality a little more room.
What unused space in your home is a decision you keep postponing?
