A room of your own can contain freedom and chores in exactly the same space.

Independence arrives with its own maintenance attached. The room nobody else controls is also the room nobody else cleans, and the same four walls hold both the pleasure of deciding and the duty of keeping. That is not a flaw in the arrangement. It is what having a place of your own consists of.

If your space feels heavier than you expected, separate the two things when you talk about it. Name what you love and name what it costs, rather than letting the second quietly spoil the first. Then take one chore off the pile so the freedom has somewhere to sit.
