A summer memory often includes weather that nobody thought to photograph.

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

The things that survive in memory are rarely the things anyone recorded. Nobody takes a picture of the temperature, and yet what comes back years later is the heat on a wall, the particular quality of evening light, the smell of a road after rain. Photographs preserve the events, and the conditions the events happened in are held somewhere else entirely.

Rather than only photographing what you are doing, stop occasionally and pay attention to how it feels. The air, the sound, the light. That is what you will be reaching for later, and it is not stored in the camera.
