If you know how to spend less than you get you have the philosopher’s stone.

STILLNESS
The gap between what comes in and what goes out is the whole machine. People search endlessly for the clever investment or the bigger salary, when the dull ability to leave a margin does more than either and works at any income. A small surplus, kept up, turns into choices later: the ability to leave a job, absorb a shock, wait for a better offer. Nothing else generates that from such plain material.
Look at last month and find the actual figure, not the one you assume. If there is no gap, make one somewhere small and automatic this week rather than waiting for an easier month.
How much less could you live on without feeling deprived?
