Thus we never live, but we hope to live; and always disposing ourselves to be happy, it is inevitable that we never become so.

— Blaise Pascal

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Postponement can become a permanent condition. Arranging life so that happiness will be possible later means the arranging is what you are actually doing, and there is always one more thing to arrange, so later never arrives. The habit is hard to see because each individual postponement is sensible. What is not sensible is the pattern they make laid end to end.

Notice what you are currently waiting for before life properly starts. Then find one piece of the life you are planning for and have it this week, in a small form, without waiting for the conditions to be right.
