Every mind was made for growth, for knowledge; and its nature is sinned against when it is doomed to ignorance.

— William Ellery Channing

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Minds are built to take things in, and one kept from that is being wronged rather than merely unlucky. The waste is easy to overlook because it is silent: nobody sees the understanding that never developed, the interest never fed, the person who was capable and never told. That is a strong reason to treat access to learning as more than a private good, and a reason not to accept a dull patch in your own life too readily.

Ask who around you is being left uncurious, at work or at home, and give them something to be interested in. Do the same for yourself if the answer is you.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Who around you was never given the chance to learn?
