It is far more easy to acquire a fortune like a knave than to expend it like a gentleman.

— Charles Caleb Colton

LEADERSHIP

WHAT THIS MEANS

Getting money and using it well are separate skills, and the first can be had by anyone unscrupulous enough while the second cannot be had at all without judgement. Plenty of people manage the acquiring and then reveal, in how they spend, that they never developed any taste, generosity or sense of proportion. Money magnifies whatever was already there. It supplies nothing that was missing.

Whatever your means, practise the second skill at the scale you currently have. How you spend a small amount is the honest preview of how you would spend a large one.
