Those who have finished by making all others think with them, have usually been those who began by daring to think with themselves.

— Charles Caleb Colton

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Influence starts as isolation. Anyone who ends up shifting how a lot of people see something began by holding a view while nobody agreed, which is uncomfortable enough that most abandon it there. The early period looks identical whether you are right or simply wrong, and there is no way to tell from inside. That is the cost of entry, and it is why the position stays uncrowded.

If you hold a view your circle does not share, work it out properly before you either drop it or announce it. Write the case against yourself first. Then be willing to be the only one holding it for a while.
