Active natures are rarely melancholy. Activity and melancholy are incompatible.

RESILIENCE
Movement and brooding are hard to do at once, and that is practical rather than moral. A mind left entirely still tends to circle, and circling lands on the worst available reading of things. Doing something with your hands or your legs interrupts the loop for a while. It settles nothing that is actually wrong, and it is no cure for the heavier kinds of low.
On a flat day, try the smallest task rather than waiting to feel like a large one. Making something or walking somewhere often shifts more than deciding does. If the weight stays whatever you do, that is worth telling someone rather than carrying alone.
What activity reliably lifts your mood when you finally start?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
