Mind unemployed is mind unenjoyed.

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Idleness and rest are not the same thing. A mind with nothing to work on rarely settles into contentment; it fidgets, scrolls, and finds something to worry about. The pleasure people remember from good days almost always involves being occupied by something worth the effort. Emptiness advertises itself as relief and seldom delivers.

If your free evenings leave you flatter than your busy ones, give one of them a task with an edge to it. Something that can be done badly or well beats something that cannot be done wrong. Real rest still matters, so notice the difference between resting and drifting.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

When did you last give your mind something genuinely interesting?
