REFLECTION
You will get used to almost anything, which is both a mercy and a hazard. It lets people survive conditions they could not have imagined bearing, and lets a bad arrangement run for years without anyone remarking on it. The adjustment is silent and complete; after a while you no longer notice what once seemed intolerable. That is why nothing gets said.
Try describing your situation to someone who has never seen it, or write it down for a stranger. The parts you find yourself explaining away are the parts you have grown used to. Not all of them need changing, though all of them deserve a look.
What have you grown used to that once seemed unacceptable?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
