I know, indeed, the evil of that I purpose; but my inclination gets the better of my judgment.

— Euripides

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Knowing better is not the same as doing better. The gap between them is where most of our damage happens. Judgement gives a verdict and inclination goes ahead anyway, which is why arguing with yourself in the moment of temptation rarely works: you are bringing an opinion to a fight that opinions do not decide.

Given that, stop relying on the moment and work on what comes before it. Change what is in the house, who you are with, how tired you are when the choice arrives, so that judgement is not left to do the whole job alone.
