Silver and gold are not the only coin; virtue too passes current all over the world.

There is a second currency, and it buys things money cannot. A reputation for keeping your word, for being fair when nobody is checking, for not taking the easy advantage, gets you trusted with work, told the truth, and given the benefit of the doubt when something goes wrong. Unlike money it cannot be transferred or inherited, only earned, and it spends anywhere you go.

Consider what you are accumulating besides income. Take one situation this week where the cheap advantage is available, decline it quietly, and notice that you have paid into an account you will be glad of later.
