The morn, look you, furthers a man on his road, and furthers him too in his work.

— Hesiod

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Early hours carry more than their length suggests. Nothing has gone wrong yet, nobody wants anything from you, and the mind is least cluttered, which is why an hour before the day starts is worth two later. Whatever gets done then tends to stay done. Whatever is left until later has to survive everything that arrives in between.

Move your most important work to the first hour you are awake and capable, before the messages. It will feel like a sacrifice of sleep or of ease, and for a week it will be. Then the day begins with something already secured, which changes the rest of it.
