Let us labor for that larger and larger comprehension of truth, that more and more thorough repudiation of error, which shall make the history of mankind a series of ascending developments.

— Horace Mann

CREATIVITY

WHAT THIS MEANS

Progress is not automatic and it is not a single event; it is made of repeated small corrections, each one a bit more understood and a bit less believed in error. Nothing about that is guaranteed, which is why it takes labour rather than time. Every generation has to redo some of it, and any that stops correcting slides back.

Choose one thing you believe that you have never actually checked, and check it this month. Then do the harder half, which is dropping it if it does not hold. A view abandoned honestly is a contribution, even when nobody sees it.
