Every day should be distinguished by at least one particular act of love.

— Johann Kaspar Lavater

GRATITUDE

WHAT THIS MEANS

A day without a single deliberate kindness in it passes as though it were unoccupied, whatever else got done. The point is the particularity: not goodwill in general, but one specific act aimed at one person, small enough to fit in an ordinary Tuesday. Done daily it accumulates into something a grand gesture once a year never matches.

Decide tonight what tomorrow’s act will be and who it is for, before the day gets away. Keep it small enough that you will actually do it, and repeat the practice for a week.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

What one loving act could you make today before it ends?
