Nothing can come out of nothing, any more than a thing can go back to nothing.

— Marcus Aurelius

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

Whatever exists came out of something else and will turn into something else again. Results come from inputs, which is the unglamorous reason nothing arrives from a standing start. It also means what you build does not simply vanish when you stop looking at it.

If you want a different outcome, look for the input you have not supplied rather than for the trick you have not found. Time, practice, money, attention: one of them is missing. If something you made seems to have disappeared, it has usually moved into people who will not tell you.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where did something central in your life actually come from?
