Remember this,—that there is a proper dignity and proportion to be observed in the performance of every act of life.

— Marcus Aurelius

RESILIENCE

WHAT THIS MEANS

Every act has a size that fits it, and most of the friction in a day comes from getting that wrong. The small favour treated as a crisis, the serious conversation handled in passing, the apology either withheld or inflated past what happened. Doing a thing at its own scale, with the care it warrants and no more, is an uncommon skill.

Look at where your reactions are out of proportion this week, in either direction. Give the small thing thirty seconds and the large thing a proper hour. Even dull tasks go better done with a little dignity than resentfully.
