A person can live successfully by society’s measurements and unsuccessfully by their own.

Society’s measures are public, standardized, and easy to apply, which is why they are so often used in place of your own. Someone can satisfy every one of them and still know that what they wanted from their life is not happening. The external verdict cannot see the internal one.

Write down what your own measure actually is, in specific terms. If you have never done this, the external one has probably been operating by default for years.
