A person can be remembered by thousands and understood by none.

Recognition and understanding are unrelated. Being known widely means many people hold a simplified version of you, and the volume of that can actually make real understanding harder, since the public account crowds out the particular one. It is possible to be surrounded and unknown.

Protect the few relationships where you are actually understood rather than admired. Those require time and honesty and cannot be substituted with any amount of recognition.
