Nothing can be done at once hastily and prudently.

— Publilius Syrus

STILLNESS

WHAT THIS MEANS

Speed and care draw on the same limited attention, and past a certain pace one of them starts to give way. What haste removes first is the checking, so the errors it produces are invisible at the moment they are made. That is why rushed work so often looks fine until the day it does not.

When something is urgent, decide explicitly which of the two you are choosing rather than pretending you can have both. If it must be fast, plan for the rework. If it must be right, protect the time and tell people it will be late.
