Everything in Nature contains all the powers of Nature. Everything is made of one hidden stuff.

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

REFLECTION

WHAT THIS MEANS

The same principles turn up at every scale, in things that appear to have nothing in common. How a conversation goes wrong and how an organisation goes wrong follow a recognisable shape. Learning something deeply in one domain very often hands you a tool that works in another, because the underlying structure repeats.

When you understand something well, ask where else that pattern shows up. A rule about how water finds a level may explain something about money or attention. Look for the shape rather than the subject, and your existing knowledge starts working in places you never studied.

A QUESTION TO SIT WITH

Where have you noticed the same pattern in two unrelated places?
