Herostratus lives that burnt the temple of Diana; he is almost lost that built it.

STILLNESS
Destruction is remembered better than building, which is an ugly fact about attention rather than about value. Wrecking something is a single dramatic act with a clear author; making something takes years, involves many hands, and produces no story. Anyone who wants notoriety has an easier route available than anyone who wants to be useful. That asymmetry is worth knowing about, mostly so you do not mistake noise for significance.
When someone is getting attention for tearing something down, resist the assumption that they matter more than the people quietly holding things together. And if you are building, expect the silence. It is not a verdict on the work.
Whose quiet building work near you goes almost entirely unnamed?
Free, with nothing to buy inside it.
